When we published a post that directed users on how to change their folder icons to awesome images, we felt little guilty in keeping Mac users out of this awesome trick. Although a bit late, but here we are with the trick to change icon of any file or folder in OS X.
Depending upon the source of the image the way to change the folder icon may vary. So here we illustrate the method to create a custom icon.

Source 1: Your own picture or a picture from the web | Change folder icon
Steps
- Open the picture in Preview > choose Edit > Select All > again select Edit > Copy
- Go to the file or folder whose icon you want to replace. Select File > Get Info (alternatively you can right click on the file or folder and select ‘Get Info’)
- At the top of the Info window > click of the picture of the icon > choose Edit > Paste
